Cyberport start-ups clinch seven wins at APICTA 2019
Six Cyberport start-ups bagged a total of four Winner Awards and three Merit Awards at the 19th Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Alliance (APICTA) Awards, held this year in Ha Long, Vietnam.
 
The wins were among 24 awards (by categories including there are Winner and Merit Awards) claimed by start-ups from Hong Kong, which picked up the largest number of awards among the 16 competing member-economies.
 
Cyberport start-ups ACE VR Ltd, Find Solutions AI Limited, and Gekko Artificial Intelligence Ltd won Winner Awards, while Marvel Digital Limited and HK Decoman Technology Ltd claimed Merit Awards in various categories. VAR LIVE International Limited, which competed in both the Consumer Category and the Start Up Category, snatched a Winner Award and a Merit Award.
 
This annual flagship event of the Asia-Pacific ICT industry is represented by 16 member-economies. The Awards were set up to recognise and promote I&T excellence in the region.
 
Eric Chan, Chief Public Mission Officer of Cyberport said, “We congratulate our incubatees, alumnus, Smart-Space companies, and the Hong Kong start-ups for their well-deserved accomplishments. The diversity and sophistication of their solutions are exemplary. Cyberport will continue to support and nurture our digital innovators and be their springboard to success.”
 
Also extending his congratulations was Victor Lam, Government Chief Information Officer. “We are delighted and inspired by the results. It is a validation of Hong Kong’s I&T excellence and a recognition of the hard work and ingenuity of our innovators. The Hong Kong government will maintain its steadfast support for our I&T talent to ensure that Hong Kong stays ahead in the 21st century digital economy.”
 
To enable NGOs and students to take part in this acclaimed event and to reach beyond borders, the OGCIO sponsored 17 students from one secondary school and two universities, as well as two NGO representatives to participate in the event.
 
Steve Ngu, Founder and CEO of VAR Live, appreciated the recognition by APICTA 2019. “We are really grateful to have the opportunity to take our esports creation and showcase it on this prestigious stage. With Cyberport’s staunch support for esports, I can foresee more emerging esports start-ups in Hong Kong in the years to come.”
