Cyberport’s Esports Facilitation Schemes bolster industry growth |
|
|
Two of Cyberport’s key initiatives to support the holistic development of esports have been warmly embraced by the industry. Since the launch of the Esports Industry Facilitation Scheme and the Esports Internship Scheme in 2019, the two programmes have supported more than 35 projects and subsidised over 20 internships.
Cyberport understands that healthy industry growth is underpinned by a nurturing ecosystem and the active participation of stakeholders. To this end, the Esports Industry Facilitation Scheme was set up to offer industry practitioners support in organising esports competitions and events, educational programmes, and business development activities. The 35+ applications approved in the first batch included projects ranging from the League of Legends Campus League to the Hong Kong College of Technology’s diploma courses. Over 20 companies benefited from this scheme.
Talent cultivation is instrumental in fostering industry development. The Esports Internship Scheme provides cash subsidies to esports employers as incentives to offer internship placements. Successful applicants can receive up to HK$7,500 per month for each intern hired. During the first round of applications, more than 20 interns among 10 companies were hired.
A new round of applications for the industry scheme has just been closed and the results will be announced soon on Cyberport website. The schemes will be open for application 3-4 times annually. Stay tuned for latest information.
